School Building Leadership Alumni Success – Michelle Bougay

Michelle Bougay earned her School Building Leadership certification through our partner program with the College of St. Rose. She has over 20 years of experience in education, including 2 years teaching EFL in Japan, a semester teaching adult ESL in a community college, 9 years teaching ESL/ENL in two NYC DOE middle schools and 7 years in educational publishing.

She is now an ELL Services Administrator based at the NYC DOE Bronx Field Support Center. Congratulations on the new job, Michelle! We at CITE are proud of you!

Did you know? almost 25% of Principals in NYC are graduates of this School Building Leadership program. Find out about this successful program with the College of St. Rose here

Below, is Michelle in her own words:

I was born and raised in Queens and currently live in Queens with my husband and son. My title is English Language Learner (ELL) Services Administrator. I’m responsible for supporting my assigned district (45 K-8 schools) in ELL related matters including compliance and instruction.

Choosing to pursue my admin degree was an easy decision. I wanted to understand education from the administration’s viewpoint, so I could help to find solutions to the issues that teachers face.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being in CITE was being part of a cohort. (School BUilding Leadership Cohort 48 was the best!) My classmates were incredible learning partners and a few have become good friends. We also had wonderful teachers especially Dr. Villante and Dr. Gagliardi. It was great to have Dr. G. as an instructor because she was the only female and the only one who was a current principal.

The first two classes I took with Dr. Villante built the theoretical framework for my thinking as an administrator and the projects and assignments I did in Dr. Gagliardi’s classes gave me the practical tools that I use daily in my new job.

I have already recommended CITE to two teacher friends.  I tell them 1. There is no reason to spend more than you have to for School Building Leadership certification. 2. I’m proof, because I got a job two months after I earned my certificate in August!
