Tonight starts the first of four scheduled parent teacher night conferences for the school year, up two from last yearCarmen Fariña, New York City schools chancellor explains why the expansion was a priority for her and offers advice on making the most of the time, including this week’s introductory session.Nick Lawrence, 8th grade social studies teacher at the East Bronx Academy for the Future offers a teacher’s perspective.

Here is the guide to Parent Teacher Nights from the Department of Education’s website, which gives the schedule and a brief overview:

“As part of the contract between the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and the DOE signed in June 2014, Citywide Parent Teacher Conferences are now held four times a year. These conferences provide a great opportunity for you to talk with your child’s teacher about what your child is learning at school and how you can support this learning at home.”
