edPeople.com – Find a Job or Find a Teacher

College of St. Rose / CITE Admin Program alumnus Adam McCabe co-founded edPeople, an online Education Networking Group, to help teachers get proactive about their job searches, and to help schools find quality teachers to interview. We talked to Adam about his exciting new venture.

What’s your background?

Adam is a high school math teacher and math department team leader at Renaissance High School in the Bronx. He has taught for the past seven years and recently completed his course work for the Administration Certification Program through the College of St. Rose in partnership with CITE. Adam’s experience as a CSR/CITE student fostered the belief that in order to be successful, a school must function as a professional learning community. This belief helped guide the development of edPeople, a professional networking website for NYC’s educators that Adam founded with his wife, Natasha, also a teacher.

How could edPeople help a teacher or school administrator?

The core mission of edPeople is to help educators play a more active role in managing their careers. On edPeople, educators can build a professional identity, connect with colleagues, create groups and discover job opportunities. The site also serves as a recruitment platform that enables school leaders to identify qualified candidates and advertise open positions to local educators.

Where did this idea originate?

Sharing ideas and experiences with his CSR/CITE classmates reinforced Adam’s belief in the need for a networking site dedicated to the needs of New York City’s educators. In addition, his coursework also helped him to think through the unique recruitment needs faced by school leaders. EDA 590 and EDA 510 in particular helped to clarify the importance of fostering a staff that operates under a shared vision.

What’s the goal for edPeople?

Adam hopes that edPeople will help support a more connected professional community among educators and ultimately offer solutions to current challenges facing recruitment efforts, mobility and talent retention within NYC’s schools.
